Aims and Scope

Ocean Governance & Policy

Research on the design, effectiveness, and implementation of marine environmental policies, governance frameworks, regulatory mechanisms, and compliance strategies at local, national, and international scales.

Climate Change & Ocean Resilience

Studies exploring the effects of climate variability, ocean warming, extreme weather, sea-level rise, and climate adaptation planning in marine and coastal systems.

Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) & Conservation Planning

Studies examining the effectiveness, design, management, and social acceptance of MPAs, including compliance, enforcement, stakeholder engagement, and ecosystem outcomes.

Fisheries Management & Marine Resource Use

Studies addressing sustainable fisheries, small-scale and industrial fishing governance, socio-economic dynamics, fisher ecological knowledge, community participation, policy implementation, and conflict resolution in marine resource management.

Socio-Ecological Systems & Human Dimensions of Oceans

Interdisciplinary research linking ecological health with human livelihoods, cultural practices, coastal development, indigenous knowledge, community stewardship, and environmental justice.

Ocean Economics, Blue Economy & Sustainable Development

Work that connects marine policy to economic growth, sustainability transitions, ecosystem services, maritime industries, and equitable benefit-sharing.

Marine Pollution, Plastics & Environmental Health

Research focused on marine debris, microplastics, chemical pollution, ecosystem impacts, monitoring strategies, mitigation programs, and policy interventions aimed at protecting marine biodiversity and coastal communities.

Indigenous, Local & Traditional Ecological Knowledge

Contributions integrating community-based or indigenous perspectives into marine governance, co-management, monitoring, ocean stewardship, and fisheries policy.

Interdisciplinary & Transdisciplinary Approaches

JMEPG values research that bridges environmental science, law, policy, social sciences, economics, ethics, and governance studies to propose holistic ocean solutions.

In an era of accelerating environmental change, geopolitical ocean pressures, and rapid coastal development, understanding and improving marine governance is more vital than ever. JMEPG provides a global platform for examining marine policy effectiveness, showcasing solutions, and shaping the future of sustainable ocean management.

We welcome submissions from scholars, practitioners, NGOs, policymakers, and community stakeholders working toward a healthier and more equitable ocean future.

Authors are requested to provide a clear statement outlining:
